Various Networked Event Portraits

October 24, 2010

I’ve had fun photographing various Networked Events in Boston and Lexington over the past year.  While doing this I’ve met and have gotten to know some awesome people.  Thanks Dan and Steve.

Engaged

October 9, 2010

For this engagement shoot I met Brad and Kristi at Boston’s Columbus Park and photographed them in various spots in the area. Just our luck that a Merry-Go-Round was near by. They get married this weekend in West VA.

Photographing the Bar/Bat Mitzvah event with understanding, flair and thoughtful composition.

For her special day, Whitey is calm, cool and collected as she poses alone and then with her family.  We had lots of fun celebrating with her later on in the day.

Live!

September 28, 2010

High school seniors often want a different look and feel for their yearbook photograph.  So I went to class to learn what new look and feel I can provide them.  Here is just a small sample of what I took and did with the photographs of Erin. We walked in the fields, sat in the sand, captured her beautiful smile, glowing eyes and showing an attitude.

Let me capture you in your special look.

Capturing moments in time!

Family Fun

March 11, 2010

Posed photos can be a lot of fun to take.  Everyone posed by the family rock.  We had lots of laughs as Fawn, Bernie, Spencer, Taylor, Sage and Teddie.   I was barking at Teddie to get her attention.

This session included shooting various combinations of family members.

Why Hire a Professional Family Portrait Photographer, and What to Consider Before Doing So

Why Hire a Professional Family Portrait Photographer,
and What to Consider Before Doing So

By Joan Ross, Portrait Photographer

It is a fact that we often times fancy ourselves to be a bit of a photographer – one who can catch the perfect family moment with a point and shoot digital camera. How hard can it be, right? Even so it is also a fact that a professional photographer is better equipped for this job and is always worth considering. So, when you make the choice to seek out a professional, consider the following:

  1. Pick the right photographer: Find the photographer that matches your style by checking their websites. View their portfolio and read the testimonials. Interview the photographer. If you have children (and or pets), it is important to choose a photographer who is experienced with children–including teenagers–and one you can feel comfortable with.
  2. Choose your portrait style: Possibilities include color or black and white, traditional or casual. Go casual especially if you have little ones.  Photos showing a family that is relaxed and having fun with each other always come out best.
  3. Choose your location: studio or a specific location: The studio is already set up and sessions can be formal or casual. A location session will depend on the weather if outdoors, or staging if in your home.
  4. Time of day is a key factor: It is important to schedule a photo session when children are happy and relaxed. That said – lighting is important, so flexibility is essential. If your session will be outdoors, bright, high noon sunshine is not ideal; outdoor photographs will be best shot either in the morning or just before dusk.
  5. What you wear does make a difference: Attire is an important part of a successful portrait. Coordinated clothing with similar or related colors will look the best. Patterns are to be avoided. Your photographer will be happy to advise you.

Ready, set, go!

You’ve found a great photographer, you’ve coordinated everyone’s clothes and you have decided on a location but you find yourself still concerned about how the day will flow. Listening to soft music or having a lively chat on your way to the session can help. However, putting your trust in the photographer’s ability to do his/her job is the best relaxant of all. Let yourself go and enjoy the experience. Your photographer will take care of the rest!

Hoop Dancers

February 22, 2010

While in Phoenix, I was asked to photograph this local event of native Indians hoop dancers competition. There were two categories youth and adults. Capturing the action is key.

Your Wedding Day

February 6, 2010

Many couples remember their wedding day as a blur of strong emotions. My job is to preserve the things you’re feeling, to capture the love, joy and details, so that you can experience them over and over.

It was a beautiful day for making outdoor photographs of Roz and Chad.  We certainly had a lot of fun throughout the day including — getting dressed, ceremony, formal portraits, reception, first dance, cake cutting, and more.

A Walk on the Beach

January 27, 2010

As the winter snow continues to fall, your last walk on the beach may be hard to recall. This couple is instantly brought back to theirs when they turn to their wall portraits.
